Job Description

Position Summary

Metal Zinc, LLC is currently seeking a Low Voltage Technician to join our Maintenance department, who will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repairing of infrastructure and low voltage telecommunications systems within a data center environment. This role requires a thorough understanding of infrastructure and low voltage systems, adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. The Low Voltage Technician ensures that all infrastructure/low voltage systems are installed and operating efficiently and in compliance with relevant codes and standards.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Installation and Maintenance:

· The role involves installing, maintaining, and repairing key infrastructures including:

  • Security Caging: Install and maintain physical barriers for sensitive areas.
  • Hot/Cold Aisle Containment: Set up and repair systems to manage airflow for cooling efficiency.
  • Floor Structures: Install and maintain raised floors for cable management and airflow.
  • Telecommunications Systems: Install, maintain, and repair communication equipment.
  • Cabling & Network Installations: Install and maintain network cables, equipment, and servers.
  • IT Equipment & Migrations: Install and maintain IT hardware and assist with system migrations.
  • Quality Inspections: Conduct regular checks on infrastructure and low voltage systems to ensure proper installation, design compliance, and safety standards.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve telecommunications issues, providing effective and efficient solutions.

2. Compliance and Safety:

· Compliance: Ensure all work meets local, state, and federal codes and regulations.

· Safety: Follow safety protocols to prevent accidents and injuries.

· Industry Knowledge: Stay up-to-date industry standards and best practices.

· Reporting: Immediately report unsafe conditions or practices to supervisors.

3. Equipment and Tools:

· Use and maintain appropriate tools and equipment for infrastructure/low voltage work, ensuring they remain in good condition.

· Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to determine electrical system layouts and meet customer needs.

4. Team Collaboration and Communication:

· Collaboration: Work with the team to install, test, and commission systems on time.

· Communication: Keep supervisors and team members informed about project status and issues.

· Guidance: Train and support apprentices and less experienced electricians.

· Organization: Help maintain clean and organized work areas.

5. Documentation:

· Document and maintain accurate records of work performed, including completed tasks and materials used.

· Assist in preparing project status reports as needed.

6. Emergency Response:

· Respond promptly to emergencies, such as client outages and system failures, to minimize downtime.

Experience

· 2+ years’ experience in infrastructure installation (caging, floor structures and/or containment systems)

· 2+ years’ experience in low voltage installation (telecommunications cabling, conveyance, rack/cabinet installation, grounding systems…)

· Minimum 1 year of experience in the manufacturing industry or a similar field is preferred.

· Strong problem-solving skills and detail oriented.

· Strong understanding of low voltage principles and concepts, in line with the manufacturing industry standards.
