We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic DREAMBuilders Athletics Coach to lead our middle school after-school program. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating after-school physical activity, club sports, and leadership activities that promote social-emotional learning.

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily after-school sports practices and occasional scrimmages for up to 18-20 youth;
  • Develop and submit practice plans that focus on skill development and social-emotional learning;
  • Facilitate or co-facilitate lessons to help youth build their social and emotional skills;
  • Supervise youth during travel to scrimmages and/or practices;
  • Communicate with school-day and programs staff about athletes' progress, emphasizing teamwork;
  • Support Program leadership and other Athletics Coaches with coordinating scrimmages;
  • Model positive participation in all activities, focusing on team building;
  • Exhibit professionalism through consistent attendance, timeliness, and preparation;
  • Supervise and manage youth during all activities using positive youth development strategies;
  • Participate in professional development and tactical training, along with formal feedback and coaching.

Qualifications

  • Strong facilitation skills for athletics or recreational programming with youth in grades 6-8;
  • Experience teaching youth foundational physical activity and athletic skills;
  • NSCA-CPT certification preferred;
  • Working towards a Bachelor's degree in Recreation or Recreational Sports Management, preferred;
  • Exhibits high energy, warmth, enthusiasm, and patience when working with youth;
  • Demonstrated interest in assisting students develop motor skills through athletics;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Able to work collaboratively with various stakeholders in a fast-paced environment;
  • Excellent time-management skills: self-starter with initiative and follow-through;
  • Experience with behavior management systems, including positive youth development, preferred;
  • Able to work collaboratively within a team setting;
  • Believes in the mission and values of DREAM, including the belief that all students can succeed, and desires to make a difference in the lives of our students, families, and community.

Commitment

  • Start date: August 15th, 2024;
  • End date: November 30th, 2024;
  • Schedule: Monday-Thursday, 4-6pm;
  • Dates and hours subject to change.

Location

  • DREAM is hiring coaches for our East Harlem and Mott Haven Middle Schools;
  • Mott Haven: 20 Bruckner Boulevard, Bronx, NY;
  • Practices take place at the school or in surrounding areas in East Harlem or the South Bronx.

Compensation

  • DREAM offers competitive compensation. This position pays $20 per hour.
