General Statement of Job


The purpose of this classification is to receive, issue and maintain inventory of supplies/materials stocked in warehouse.


Specific Duties and Responsibilities


  • Receives, stocks, stores issues, delivers, and maintains control of supplies/materials for County schools/departments; maintains and updates warehouse/inventory records.

  • Maintains organization and cleanliness of warehouse or other storage areas organizes stock and storage areas to facilitate identification and location of items places stock items into assigned areal monitors security of items stored in or transported to/from warehouse; performs general housekeeping tasks associated with maintaining warehouse and work areas.

  • Monitors inventory levels to ensure adequate quantities conducts monthly/periodic inventory counts of materials in stock; initiates requests for new or replacement materials; places orders as appropriate; obtains competitive price quotes; assesses need for new stock items; recommends addition/removal of items from inventory.

  • Receives incoming orders, packages, or deliveries; picks up orders from local vendors as needed; inspects deliveries to verify receipt of correct materials and of entire order; verifies accuracy of packing slips and receiving documents; records receipt of items into computer; places materials into stock or prepares for delivery to schools/departments as appropriate.

  • Issues materials from inventory; reviews orders and researches discrepancies; retrieves requested stock items from warehouse inventory to fill individual requisitions; packages items into boxes and marks for proper delivery; maintains log/records of all materials issued; operates truck or other vehicle to deliver orders/materials to schools/departments; loads, transports, and unloads equipment, deliveries, and other materials; operates forklift, pallet jack, and had truck to move/organize materials.

  • Processes shipment of return orders, damaged items, and warranty parts; packages materials for shipping and maintains records.

  • Maintains computerized inventory records; enters, retrieves or modifies data in computer database; verifies accuracy of entered data and makes corrections; updates records to reflect status of inventory items.

  • Performa customer service functions; provides assistance and information related to orders, materials, procedures, forms and other issues; responds to routine questions, complaints, or requests for service; researches problems and initiates problem resolution.

  • Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, expenditure reports, requisition reports, stock status reports, inventory records, vehicle maintenance records or other documents.

  • Receives various forms, reports, correspondence, inventory records, purchase orders, invoices, packing slips, stock status reports, budget reports, vehicle maintenance reports, purchasing guidelines, policies, procedures, contracts, catalogs, manuals, directories, reference materials, or other documentation; reviews completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate.

  • Operates a personal computer, general office equipments, utility truck, forklift, pallet jack, mechanic tools, hand tools, or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions, to include the use of work processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail, Internet, or other computer programs.

  • Performs general maintenance tasks necessary to keep vehicles, equipment and tools in operable condition, which may include inspecting equipment, refueling vehicles, greasing equipment, washing/cleaning equipment, disposing of trash, or cleaning warehouse/work areas; monitors equipment to maintain efficiency and safety; reports faulty equipment.

  • Communicates with vendors regarding price quotes, product availability, status of orders, problems, discrepancies, or other issues.

  • Communicates with supervisor, employees, other departments, school personnel, vendors/suppliers, shipping/mailing agencies, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.

  • Conducts various errands as needed.


ADDITIONAL DUTIES

  • Performs general clerical tasks, which may include answering telephone calls, making copies, sending/ receiving faxes, filing documentation , or processing incoming/outgoing mail.

  • Provides assistance to other employees or departments as needed.

  • Performs related duties as required.


Essential Functions


Physical Requirements:

Must be physically able to operate a variety of machines and equipment, including a telephone, cleaning equipment, etc. Must be able to exert up to twenty pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary work; must be able to remain on feet for periods of time, stoop, kneel, crouch, push, pull, climb, balance and perform manual tasks. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of up to 100 pounds.

Training and Education


High school diploma or GED; supplemented by one (1) year previous experience and/or training involving warehouse operations, inventory control, customer service, and personal computer operations; and any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina driver’s license. Must possess and maintain valid Forklift Operator certification.
